I'm pretty sure Kat said the writing log was optionally due tomorrow. I'm thinking of changing around my paper and doing piece on anti-vegetarianism. I just found out that there's a whole society for people who eat meat.
Some interesting culinary topics from the recent past might be the food epidemics. Last year it was spinach, this year it was the salmonella tomatoes. I'm not sure about books about this topic, but looking into the past food epidemics and how safe your food is should have quite a few hit on google and some books.
Sugar is one of my favorite topics(pastry chef...lol). It might be interesting to look into the new commercials about high fructose corn syrup. I have a baking tech book at home, and could have my parents bring it up this weekend if anyone is interested adding a technical aspect of a particular ingredient to their research. Just let me know by tomorrow.
These are some great ideas. In order to find something "interesting," I would suggest thinking about what you eat. Perhaps get in a conversation with your friends that aren't in the class. What would they write about? I also really like the idea of writing about epidemics. You might also might be interested in moral dilemmas involving food. If you're into pop culture, film, or music, it might be fun to write about how food is portrayed to the public. How does the media view it? What about film? Fiction? Obviously you wouldn't be able to tackle all these issues in one 5 to 7 page research paper, but you could pick one and go with it. Another ideas is to write about cultural implications of food. How do different types of people and different religions and cultures use food everyday? Hope that helps.
I just talked to my roommates about writing my paper on America's obsession with coffee. They said it would be a good topic considering how young we are and how much coffee we are consuming. Also about how most American's are always on the go and are pressed for time so they see coffee as the fuel to keep them going.
