Coke

Just wondering if we could get a thread on here about the Coke ads. Who liked the pink one? Who liked the car one? Why? Also, another old commonly used ad for Coke is/was the polar bear, as seen above. Who likes that one better?

The car one felt like it was made in ms paint.
The font was also completely unprofessional and annoyed me very much.
It caught my attention, but didn't make we want to buy coke at all. It made me want to find whoever made the ad and tell them to find another career because clearly they fail at advertising.
Badly made images make me irrationally angry, as you can probably tell from this comment. =)

I love the Polar Bear Coke ads! They always come out around Christmas time right? They always play in the movie theaters during the previews. They are really memorable and always give Coke good marketing. I also love the Coke commercials where someone is at the vending machine and the Coke bottle goes through epic journey's before it comes out at the bottom. They are always really funny and witty.

I'll battle anyone who defends the car ad in a debate. That ad was just awful. I truly can't comprehend anyone that would approve. I'm stubborn like that.
Speaking of Coke ads, how did they manage to take Santa and make him a Coke symbol? I've always thought that was interesting. I guess the Santa Claus image is in public domain....

Alright Jake, battle is on,

I did like the coke ad with the car, not as my favorite of all time, but far more than I liked the one with all of the pink in the hair salon. Whether it looks like it was done in paint or not, it advertised its product more than the other ad, it got the name on there with a big picture, and used its familiar red color instead of all of that pink which just took away from the ad.

My point is this, the ad may not be as visually pleasing as many of the others, but it clearly showed what it was advertising and trying to sell, so what if it looked like a computer background, maybe it was, if so, great job.

What now jake?

Alright Ben, let's do this.

Your main argument is that the car ad gets the name out better. I would compare this to someone remembering my name better if I were to scream it in their ear every 10 seconds. Yeah, they'll remember my name, but they'll be pissed of, and turned away.
Coke doesn't need to advertise its name, as Steve Himmer once told us: Coca-Cola is the most recognizable brand in the world. So, the purpose of an advertisement changes when your name is already out there. The purpose is to get people to want to drink your product. When I look at the car ad, the ugly color and layering combination makes me think Coke might as well taste like diesel fuel. Why would I trust the quality of their product if I can't trust the quality of their advertisement?
The pink hair salon ad was everything the car ad was not. In a word: classy.

Oh Jake,
You go quoting Himmer right in my face... Well, like you said, Coke is the most regognized brand out there, but how many people would know the brand and not have ever had a coke. If you know what coke is, chances are you know what it tastes like too. Here, with the car ad, however ugly it may be, they are hearing "coke" screamed into their ear, but maybe that is the point. Maybe they want the name to just jump out in any way possible, and have poeple link the name to the taste that they already know. If their target here was people who know the brand but have never tasted Coke, then yes, fail. But i highly doubt that was their target.

I agree, but I'm not about to go respond to an ad that screams in my ear.
You've acknowledged that it is an ugly ad, and for me: that's it. I don't believe in ugly ads. I don't appreciate an ugly visual design. The ad was thrown together and I don't respect that.
